Job Description

You will be working in the department dealing directly with people affected by lung cancer. The post holder will work as part of the Information & Support Service to develop engagement with people affected by lung cancer in our service, campaigning, research and policy functions. You will be involved raising awareness of service activity and linking people with lung cancer to relevant services. This post holder will have direct contact with people affected by lung cancer as well as Health Care Professionals and build effective relationships to secure their support for the charity.

The post holder will be required to work in collaboration with a range of teams to communicate and engage people. You will be part of the Information & Support team based in Glasgow and working remotely across the UK. The nature of the post will involve regular contact with people with lung cancer and those caring for them.

Overall Objectives

  • To be the 1st point of contact for clients using Lung cancer connect, support and information services
  • To promote awareness of the services and liaise with health care contacts and other referring staffs
  • To assist colleagues in the Information & Support team to identify ways to reach people affected by lung cancer
  • To provide administrative support to our Information Day events (5 per annum in 2022)
  • To maintain communication with the network of support groups across the UK as they re-open
  • To ensure service evaluations are carried out ensuring we reach team goals
  • To deliver service in a cost-effective way, working within budgets

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate and facilitate phone contact with patients and carers by working with Service Co-ordinator, Officer & Managers
  • Respond to referrals of new service users, referring to appropriate staff and sometimes being first point of contact
  • Maintain accurate records of service contacts, including setting up and amending Raiser’s Edge database
  • Set up and communicate digital support details with participants and facilitators
  • Support the Information Officer in developing information materials by identifying expert and advocates willing to be involved in consultation
  • Assist with proof reading of draft materials and support production process by liaising with printers, photographers and other agencies involved
  • Support patient grant contacts, logging applications and carrying out evaluation
  • Engage with volunteers involved in offering advocacy and support contacts

About the team

The Information & Support team is based in Glasgow and Liverpool and offers a range of services to people affected by lung cancer across the UK. The team works closely with our Research, Finance, Income generation and Marketing teams.

Our main activities include: distributing information designed to help people with lung cancer; running an ask the nurse service offering support and advice to people affected by lung cancer; supporting people affected by lung cancer virtually via our Lung Cancer Connect services, and/or face to face via our Support Group network and Information Days; promoting awareness of signs and symptoms and the benefit of early diagnosis of lung cancer.
