Our strategy

People affected by lung cancer deserve better. They deserve access to the best diagnostics, treatment and care. They deserve support without judgement. They deserve the chance to live through lung cancer rather than die from it.

Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation wants people affected by lung cancer to thrive, not just survive – and just like Roy himself, our dedication to make this happen knows no bounds.

Over the next three years, the charity will aim to:

Drive further uptake of lung cancer screening

Screening is saving lives. Three quarters of those diagnosed through screening have early stage disease when lung cancer is easier to treat and possible to cure.

We are committed to driving uptake of screening and its evolution so more lives can be saved.

Improve early detection within symptomatic patients

With more than half of lung cancers arising in people who aren’t eligible for screening and only around half of those who are eligible choosing to participate, improving early detection amongst those with symptoms is key to transforming long-term survival.

We are committed to ensuring everyone will lung cancer is diagnosed at the earliest opportunity.

Ensure diagnostic testing is carried out and results received within 14 days for all patients UK-wide

The development of lung cancer treatments has been phenomenal over the past decade, ensuring more people to live well for longer with all forms and stages of this disease.

However, for this to have a real impact on people’s lives, timely access to these effective treatments is vital.

Expand our patient and carer services to include psycho-social support.

Everyone’s diagnosis is different and so is everyone’s need for support.

We are committed to provide face-to-face, telephone and online support to ensure no one faces lung cancer alone.

Develop the next generation of researchers through our Clinical Research Fellowship programme

Research is key in our fight against lung cancer. Better understanding and knowledge of the disease will allow us to find more ways to diagnose, treat and cure it.

We are committed to support and develop future researchers who may unlock the key to long term survival.

Represent and support all people affected by lung cancer

Lung cancer is a disease that can affect anyone – men and women, young and old, people who smoke and people who have never smoked.

We remain the only UK charity solely dedicated to supporting everyone affected by lung cancer.

Campaign for key policy changes and initiatives to improve the diagnosis and treatment of all forms of the disease

The sooner someone is diagnosed, the better the potential outcome.

We are committed to find new ways to diagnose and treat lung cancer so more people can live through lung cancer than die from it.

Amplifying the voice of those with lung cancer through advocacy

Lung cancer is plagued by dangerous misconceptions and outdated stereotypes. As a result, lung cancer has not received the attention or funding it deserves.

We are committed to advocate for people with lung cancer to ensure they remains a priority.
