Course Highlights

The marathon both begins and concludes in the historic Olympic Stadium, an iconic venue that once hosted the 1928 Summer Olympics and continues to stand as a powerful symbol of sporting excellence. From this starting point, the course takes runners on a remarkable journey through some of Amsterdam’s most memorable and picturesque landmarks, each adding its own unique atmosphere and charm to the race experience.

🌳 Vondelpark – As participants enter Amsterdam’s most famous park, they are greeted by lively music, cheering crowds, and an unmistakable sense of energy that carries them forward, offering a much-needed lift in the later stages of the marathon.

🖼 Rijksmuseum Tunnel – In one of the most distinctive features of the course, runners pass directly through the tunnel of the world-renowned Rijksmuseum, creating an unforgettable moment where art and athleticism come together in a way that is found in no other marathon.

🍺 Heineken Experience – The route then leads past the landmark former brewery of Heineken, now a celebrated museum and major tourist attraction, where the iconic red star and historic brick façade serve as another reminder of the city’s cultural heritage.

🌊 The Amstel River – Finally, the course unfolds into a serene and scenic stretch along the Amstel River, guiding runners south of the bustling city centre and into the tranquillity of rural landscapes. Here, traditional windmills, charming villages such as Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, and fields dotted with grazing cows provide a striking contrast to the urban sections of the race, making it one of the most picturesque highlights of the entire marathon.
