Walk in White for World Cancer Day

Wednesday 4th February 2026 — World Cancer Day

Join schools across the UK for Walk in White, a simple but powerful way to raise awareness and vital funds for lung cancer research and support for everyone affected by lung cancer.

On World Cancer Day, we’re asking pupils to wear something white and take part in a school-organised walk — celebrating hope, community, and progress in cancer research.

How It Works

1. Sign up your school — it’s completely free!

2. We’ll send you a digital resource pack, including guides, templates and fundraising ideas to make running your event simple and stress-free.

3. Every participating pupil receives a Walk in White wristband as a thank-you for taking part.

4. Primary schools will also get white flags for pupils to decorate and add messages of hope & support.

5. Schools will be encouraged to raise funds collectively — with a trophy awarded to our top fundraisers!

Why Take Part

Walk in White is more than just a fundraiser. It’s a chance to:

Raise awareness of lung cancer and the amazing progress being made in research and treatment.

Educate pupils that cancer doesn’t have to be scary — there’s so much hope and progress in care.

Encourage healthy habits, especially as vaping and smoking become more common among young people.

Bring your school community together for a fun, meaningful, and active event.

Ideas for Your Walk

Your walk can be as creative as you like! Here are some examples schools have loved:

The “White Ribbon Walk” – Pupils form a giant white ribbon shape in the playground before heading out.

The “Lung Health Loop” – A short, themed walk around your local park or school grounds, with educational stops to learn fun lung facts.

The “Buddy Walk” – Older and younger classes pair up to walk together and support each other.

Sponsored Step Challenge – Track total steps as a school and aim for a collective goal, like “one million steps for lung health”.

Ways to Engage Pupils

Make Walk in White part of a wider learning experience:

Decorate your flags – Have an art session where pupils design their white flags with messages of hope or kindness.

Science in action – Learn about the lungs and how they work.

Health and well-being lessons – Talk about staying active, avoiding smoking or vaping, about air pollution and caring for our bodies.

Story time – Share inspiring stories of people who’ve overcome lung cancer.

Music and movement – End your walk with a song, dance, or cheer for hope and progress!

Trophies & Friendly Competition

Schools that raise the most will be in with a chance to receive our Walk in White trophy — a symbol of your collective effort and community spirit.

You can even create your own categories to celebrate creativity and enthusiasm:
