Step into Summer

Our big fundraising walk, Step into Summer, is back and this year, we’re making it bigger and better than ever.

Step into Summer is the perfect fundraising event that everyone can do. It is a wonderful opportunity to get everyone together united in our shared experiences.

As well as our live group walk in Liverpool, you can also now create your own, personal version too, joining forces with people across the UK as we take a step closer to a world where no one dies of lung cancer.

About the event

On Friday 30th July, we will be hosting our Step in Summer fundraising event in Liverpool, a six-mile walk along the city’s iconic waterfront. With music, entertainment and goodies along the way, the evening will be filled with fun, hopefully sun and long overdue catch ups.

For the first time this year, you can also be part of this very special occasion by creating your own walk between Friday 30th July and Sunday 1st August, which is World Lung Cancer Day. Maybe there is a route that is special to you and your family. Or perhaps, you’d like to visit somewhere scenic or significant whilst out on your walk. It’s completely up to you. Everyone who takes part will receive a Roy Castle t-shirt and well-deserved medal.

Walk for people like Pat

However you join our Step into Summer event, you’ll be helping people like Pat.

Pat was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2015. Fortunately, it was caught early, and she was able to have surgery. Six years on and she remains cancer free.

Pat is now part of our latest awareness campaign – Spot the Difference – to help others recognise the early subtle symptoms of the disease and take action so they too can be diagnosed earlier.

Prior to the pandemic, there was a real momentum behind lung cancer. More people were being diagnosed earlier. There were more life-lengthening treatments were available and we were on the cusp of national lung cancer screening programme.

Then Covid hit. Lung cancer referral rate fell by a staggering 75% and remain significantly below expected levels, resulting in thousands of people missing out on an earlier and potential life-saving diagnosis.

But now, with restrictions lifting it is time to pull together to restore the momentum and save lives.

In 2019, our amazing walkers raised on average £150 per person. After the year we have had, we want – and need – to exceed this so we can help more people get diagnosed early like Pat.

So, let’s all come together and step towards a brighter future for lung cancer.

Coming together to save lives

In 2019, our amazing walkers raised on average £150 per person and we would love to be able to surpass last year’s total. It has been an incredibly difficult year for our charity and the people with support. We need to pull together to repair the devastation Covid has had on people with lung cancer so please, do everything you can to raise as much as possible by setting up a fundraising page through JustGiving.

If you’re walking as a team, you can set up a joint JustGiving page and work together to raise vital funds for lung cancer. You can simply set up one page and work together to raise as much money as possible.
