Become a charity advocate

Give the gift of time by becoming an advocate for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation advocates help our charity immensely. Drawing on your own personal experience of lung cancer, advocates have help raise awareness, increase understanding, challenge misconceptions and improve outcomes.

Roles and opportunities

There are many different ways you can get involved and support our work. These include:

Sharing your story

Sharing your own experience of lung cancer can help us raise vital awareness of symptoms and encourage others to take action. This can be either video or a written account and will be shared on our website and social channels.

Media spokesperson

Speaking to the media about your experience can help us raise the profile of lung cancer on a national scale and reach more people. It can also make more people aware that we are here to support them throughout their diagnosis and treatment.

Readership panel

Our readership panel help to ensure our information is clear and easy to understand. You will be given draft copies of our new and updated literature to read and check everything is explained in a simple, straightforward and helpful way.

Awareness events

Join us as we get out into the communities that need us the most to raise awareness of lung cancer, its symptoms, local screening initiatives and the charity.

Spokesperson

From our information days to parliamentary events, chatting to staff and taking part in panels, you can share your experiences to provide reassurance and raise awareness.

Surveys and feedback

Improve the treatment and care of lung cancer by completing patient involvement questionnaires, speak to pharmaceutical companies and take part in research projects.

Charity rep

Represent our charity at events, attend cheque presentations, promote our work and explain how donations will help those affected by lung cancer.

Community champion

Become the lung cancer champion in your local area. Distribute materials within your community and host your own awareness events.

In your application, you will be asked which areas of advocacy you are interested in. It is completely up to you which advocacy roles you take on. We would never ask you to do something you are not comfortable with. It’s also ok to change your mind, or take a step back whenever you need to.

Your commitment

Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation advocates are the faces of the charity.

In your capacity as an advocate, you are representing Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and its values. It is therefore essential that you follow the charity’s guidance and instruction whenever acting on its behalf and champion our aims and values:

  • Commitment to early detection
  • Access to life-lengthening treatment
  • Supporting everyone affected
  • Raising awareness, challenging misconceptions, eradiating stigma and empowering self advocacy.

Working together

You will be fully supported throughout your time as an advocate.

After registering your interest, one of the team will arrange a call to chat through everything that’s involved. You will then need to sign an advocacy agreement.

You will receive regular email communications as well as be invited to bi-monthly video calls where you’ll meet fellow advocates and hear about the latest updates from the charity.

The team will also run quarterly training sessions which will provide information about the charity and the current lung cancer landscape as well as details about specific roles and responsibilities of an advocate. Whilst these sessions are not mandatory, we highly recommend all advocates taking part in training sessions once they have signed up.
