Tackle lung cancer stigma – Join a focus group

Campaign Focus Group

We’re developing a new campaign to tackle stigma around lung cancer, and we’d really value your input. We know that stigma can have a real impact on those affected — from the moment of diagnosis, through treatment, and beyond.

We’re inviting advocates to join an online focus group, where we’ll share our ideas and hear your feedback. The session will take place in the next couple of weeks (date to be confirmed based on availability).

If you’re interested in taking part, please email rachel.avery@roycastle.org with your availability over the next two weeks (20 April – 1 May).

Share Your Experience: Help Us Improve How We Talk About Lung Cancer

We also want to hear directly from people who have experienced stigma, so that our campaign truly reflects the challenges you face.

Have You Experienced Stigma?

We’d love to hear from you if you can relate to any of the following:

  • Has anyone ever said something hurtful about your diagnosis?
  • Have you ever felt the need to hide your lung cancer?
  • If you smoked, have you ever felt judged or ashamed of having lung cancer?

Your experiences — honest, real, and personal — will help us create a campaign that educates, challenges misconceptions, and supports everyone affected by lung cancer.

Why Your Voice Matters

Stigma can affect mental health, delay treatment, and make people feel isolated. By sharing your story, you’re helping us:

  • Highlight the realities of living with lung cancer
  • Challenge stereotypes and misconceptions
  • Create campaigns and resources that genuinely support people affected

How to Share Your Story

We welcome contributions in whatever way feels most comfortable:

  • Written submissions
  • Video recordings
  • One-to-one conversations with our team.

You can share your story safely and confidentially, and we will handle all submissions with care and respect.

To get involved, please email us at rachel.avery@roycastle.org. Our team will contact you to discuss how you’d like to participate.

Together, we can challenge the stigma and make sure every person affected by lung cancer is heard, supported, and understood.
