When asked by their school which charity they wanted to fundraise for, Sienna suggested Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, in memory of her granddad, Barry. Alongside Talia, Chloe, Niamh, Eireann, Clara and Roberta, Sienna planned and carried out a cake sale, very fittingly called Barry’s Bake Off!
Sienna’s Mum, Jo, describes their amazing fundraising journey.
‘Sienna (my daughter) spoke to the group about my dad and when he was diagnosed with lung cancer, and how I’d told her about the charity and the good work they did. She proposed it to the rest of the group who all agreed Roy Castle was the charity they wanted to support!
They decided to do a cake sale, as they all really enjoy baking (and who doesn’t like cake!). They asked the local Catholic Church (as the girls attend a Catholic school) if they could set up the stall to sell cake after mass, and thankfully were given permission.’
They girls had hoped to raise £100, so were delighted when they did the final count and had made £175
‘A couple of very generous customers made additional donations, as they agreed it was a very good cause.
The girls are now planning their next fundraiser and have decided on a sponsored walk which they are hoping to do in May or June (date and details to be confirmed!). They would like to set a slightly more ambitious fundraising target of £200, and I think they will get lots of support!’
