Beyond a Joke Comedy Gala

Registration fee: £25 Minimum sponsorship: £400
16th June 2023 North West

Consider yourself a bit of a comedian? Voted class clown in school, or regularly have your friends and colleagues in stitches? Put your funny flair to good use by fundraising and taking part in a fantastic comedy gala – Beyond a Joke!

We’ve teamed up with The Comedy Trust for a second year to give budding comedians the opportunity take part in their sell out comedy course for beginners and raise money to help those affected by lung cancer.

Working with a leading circuit comedian, you will benefit from a five-week workshop where you’ll learn to create and shape your own stand-up routine. You’ll then take to the stage to perform in front of an audience of family and friends at the prestigious Royal Court Theatre.

Yes, of course I was absolutely terrified. But when the adrenalin kicked in, I was off and running, and I enjoyed every second of it. The training from the professionals was amazing, and it all came together on the night. I think someone even laughed in the right places! It’s a brilliant experience and helps a great charity too.

Graphic designer Ricky Williams, of Everton, took part in last year’s event, and just about survived his baptism of fire.

The comedy training…

The Comedy Workshops commences 6pm – 8pm held on:

  • Tuesday 16th May
  • Tuesday 23rd May
  • Tuesday 30th May
  • Tuesday 6th June
  • Tuesday 13th June

The sessions will be held in the Cotton Exchange Building on Old Hall Street in Liverpool.

Please ensure you can attend all dates before signing up.

The main event will then take place on Friday 16th June 2023 at Studio in the iconic Royal Court. Tickets will be on sale soon.

What’s included for our comedians…

  • A chance to broaden your skill set, improve your confidence and try something out of the ordinary – Whilst raising money for a good cause.
  • Five high-quality group workshops with a professional comedian to refine and perfect your set.
  • Your name, picture, and bio in the official Beyond a Joke programme.
  • Support and advice with your fundraising so you can raise as much money as possible.

It may seem like a scary prospect to stand on stage and make people laugh, but it’s nowhere near as scary as being told you have lung cancer. Your donations and support means so much to our charity, the patients and families that are living with lung cancer.

Not everyone wants to run a marathon; Beyond a Joke is a fantastic and unique way to raise money and help those living with lung cancer.
