“In 2012 I lost my wife Lynne to lung cancer. She was only 62 years old. We had been married for 27 years. I would give everything to have her back. She loved her family and loved life – she had so much to live for.

Our four sons Jon, Toney, Mark, David junior and myself decided that we had to do something positive, which is why we got involved with Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

We supported the Celebrate A Life appeal, giving us the opportunity to remember Lynne in a positive way and make a difference at the same time. It is only when this horrendous disease hits somebody who you love that you realise how important the work of this charity is.

We also set up The Lynne Mary Livingstone Tribute Fund and organised our first charity fundraising event – a ‘Beer and Skittles’ night with a barbeque and raffle. We also sold Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation pin badges. Everybody had a great time, even though the circumstances were so sad.

Later in the year, David junior raised funds by running the Birmingham Half Marathon.

In May 2013 we held a Family Fun Day with a bouncy castle, skittles, duck race, face painting and tombola. It all took a bit of planning but I can honestly say it was well worth it.

Good luck to everyone out there who finds themselves in this situation.”
