I’m Green

Every time you shop at a Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation store, you’re helping to make the world a little greener!

The I’m Green campaign highlights how items bought from one of the charity’s retail shops are green… even if they’re red, blue or yellow!

According to Greenpeace, clothing companies create more than 1 million garments every day whilst around 300,000 tonnes of textile waste end up in household bins every year and sent to landfill or incinerators. Less than 1% of material used to produce clothing is recycled into new clothing at the end of its life, and this is only likely to get worse with fast fashion emissions expected to increase by 50% by 2030, if the current growth continues.

Charity shops like ours, provide a sustainable and ethical way for people to dispose of unwanted goods, therefore playing a pivotal role in reducing the country’s carbon footprint – as well as saving shoppers money and helping the charity continue its vital work.

I’m Green aims to encourage more people to shop preloved, and also donate quality items to reduce landfill.

Julie Pickering is the Head of Retail at Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation:

“Our retail shops are vital to the sustainability of our charity and the thousands of people we support.

But when it comes to charity shops, there are so many additional benefits – not only for the charity, but for both shoppers and the environment.

I’m Green is a celebration that everything bought is helping to make the world a little greener. So, that vintage wedding dress a bride-to-be buys is actually green! That toy fire engine purchased for a beloved grandson is green as well!”
