When Chris Lafbury sadly lost his wife, Liz, to lung cancer in 2014, he used their joint love of martial arts to raise money in her memory.
They were both members of Shotokan Karate England, and so Chris wanted to organise a ‘Karate-ahon’ in memory of Liz.
200 students joined him in a martial arts ‘marathon’ with participants completing a total of 11,700 choreographed movements over three hours. The event raised over £22,000 for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and beat a previous world record by 3,000 movements.
“I was so overwhelmed by the number of people that turned up in support of the event.

Their dedication and hard work were truly touching.”
