Your Dalai Lama Trek challenge begins in Dharamsala, home to the Dalai Lama and the centre of the Tiberal Community.
Set in the heart of the world’s highest mountain range, the Himalayas, you’ll have the opportunity to explore this fascinating town before setting off on your explorative 5-day challenge.
You’ll encounter some of India’s most stunning sights, from the Kingdom of Gaddi – a semi-nomadic race who spend months wandering the high passes with their cattle, to.the spectacular views of the Daula Dhar Mountain Range. You will trek through rhododendron forests, Hindu settlements and Buddhist Monasteries.
At the end of this amazing charity challenge, you will have some free time to explore the incomparable Taj Mahal – one of the world’s greatest monuments to love ever built, and one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.
Itinerary
- Day 1: Depart UK
- Day 2: Arrive in Delhi. You’ll then take an overnight train to Pathankot
- Day 3: Transfer to Dharamsala – home of the Dalai Lama
- Day 4: The Dalai Lama trek begins. Trek from Dharamsala to Kareri (2,070m). Walking distance: 12km / 7 miles
- Day 5: Trek Kareri to Bal Village (2,330m). Walking distance: 12km / 7 miles
- Day 6: Trek Bal Village to Triund (2,995m). Walking distance: 10km / 6 miles.
- Day 7: Trek Triund to Snowline Cafe. Walking distance: 9km / 6 miles.
- Day 8: Trek Triund to Bhagsu Nag. You’ll then travel back to Dharamsala for a well-deserved celebratory meal. Walking distance: 7km / 4 miles.
- Day 9: Spend the morning exploring Dharamsala before travelling back to Pathankot to catch the overnight train to Delhi
- Day 10: Transfer to Arga and visit the Taj Mahal
- Day 11: Return to UK.
Requirements
The Dalai Lama Trek involves walking for five consecutive days, covering a distance of approximately 50km / 31 miles in hot weather. You will be walking for up to nine hours a day so you will need to train for this challenge. The fitter you are, the more you will enjoy this challenge.
What’s included?
Travel
Return flights from London to Delhi and all transfers.
Please note, airport taxes and fuel surcharges are not included. You will also need to purchase personal travel insurance.
Accommodation
You will stay in a range of 2 and 3-star hotels as well as on camping.
Meals
Most meals will be provided on the trek and all dietary requirements are catered for.
Travel Guide
The Dalai Lama Trek is organized and run by Global Adventure Challenges. One of their experienced challenge leaders accompanies every group. They work with local in-country ground handlers who employ qualified local guides to boost the local economy.
Payment options
There are two different payment options for the Dalai Lama Trek:
Option A: Raise a minimum sponsorship
- Pay £349 registration fee to Global Adventure Challenge
- Raise a minimum £2800 sponsorship for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
- 80% of the minimum sponsorship must be in the account at least 11 weeks before the challenge departure date. All outstanding sponsorship must be sent to the charity within six weeks of completing the challenge.
- Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation will be invoiced by Global for the remaining balance of the Challenge 10 weeks prior to departure.
Option B: Self-funding option
- Pay £349 registration fee to Global Adventure Challenge
- Pay the cost of the challenge (£1400) 11 weeks before departure
- If you wish, you can also raise additional funds to support Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation
We understand taking on an overseas challenge like the Dalai Lama Trek is a big commitment and can be quite costly. If you are unable to pay the registration fee in full, Global Adventure Challenges now offers you the option to pay in two instalments over two months.
