Specsavers
Specsavers came on board as a corporate partner of Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation after one of its company directors, Tom Simpson, died of lung cancer in 2018. After his death, his colleagues at Specsavers wanted to continue his legacy and dedicated a week of fundraising in his honour.
Every branch in Scotland donated £1 for every eye test they did that week. Each store also held their own fundraisers in Tom’s memory – selling cakes, running raffles and offering a free glasses clean for any donation made.
Remembering Tom
Tom was just 48 when he passed, the third generation of his family to die of this disease.
During his diagnosis, Tom was an active patient advocate for our charity, taking part in our #HeadHigh campaign as part of Lung Cancer Awareness Month (LCAM).
He also travelled from his home in Aberdeen to attend our Parliamentary event, calling on MPs to make lung cancer a healthcare priority.
Tom’s Day was a huge success and Specsavers are now looking to make it an annual event.
